The artwork for Berry Simon’s custom Christmas cards this year is ‘Christmas Shaman’, an original work by new artist, Issy van der Leden, a Fine Arts student at Canterbury University. Issy is Sue Simons’ daughter and the painting is her first professional project.
Sue says that she is very proud of Issy and somewhat surprised at the extent of her talent. “I have no idea where she gets such talent from. She jumped at the chance to paint a Christmas card for Berry Simons. Simon and I were delighted with the Christmas Shaman, particularly with the Berry Simons logo hanging from her right antler.”
Last year, Berry Simons’ Christmas card was also an original piece showing two of Simon’s Kaiaua friends, by another good friend and well-known artist DBG Goodwin, who sadly passed away in 2013. The original piece adorns the firm’s offices.
Consistent with tradition, Berry Simons also sent out Christmas tiles to clients and professional colleagues the firm has worked most closely with during the year. The tile always contains a piece of pithy wisdom or a humorous quote (often from a song). This year, the tile quotes Winston Churchill: “If you are going through hell, keep going.”
Simon sent the first Christmas tile in 2004 when he started out as a barrister. This spawned a tradition that the partners of Berry Simons continued when the firm was established in 2012. Simon says that people like the tiles and cards as they reflect the personal touch consistent with the way Berry Simons practises law. “I frequently visit clients and colleagues and am pleased to find our tiles are proudly on display, such as at Mt Hobson Group. It always feels satisfying to give something that lasts.”
The team at Berry Simons wish you a safe and happy Festive Season and holiday period!
