Pokeno plan change request granted for extension

Mon May 14th 2018

Sue Simons and Kate Storer recently acted for Pokeno Village Holdings Limited (“PVHL”), a subsidiary of Dines Group and Fulton Hogan, in relation to the development of its land at Pokeno. In May 2018 they successfully obtained approval for the rezoning of 26 hectares of rural land adjoining the existing Pokeno Structure Plan area. The rezoning will enable residential development of the land to support the continued growth of Pokeno’s commercial and industrial centre.

The project provides for the retention and enhancement of existing vegetated gullies to provide amenity for residents and protect and enhance the waterways and riparian margins. Some limited works are required in the gully areas to stabilise the site. PVHL worked closely with Waikato Regional Council and Waikato District Council to develop precinct provisions which provide an appropriate consenting framework for the management of these areas, consistent with the requirements of the Waikato Regional Policy Statement.

Sue Simons says “By the time of the hearing, all issues raised by submitters had been resolved satisfactorily and the hearing was completed in less than one day. This is a good example of how putting in the effort up front can de-risk the hearing process.”
