MADE Group gets green lights for major residential development in Rotokauri
Wed Aug. 3rd 2022
The urban development group moves closer to building its large-scale new community north of Hamilton.
With the assistance of Berry Simons, MADE Group has received two ‘green lights’ to enable the residential development of 140 hectares of land at Rotokauri, north of Hamilton.
The ‘green lights’ comprise:
- Approval of a private plan change (Plan Change 7) to the Hamilton City District Plan to authorise the rezoning of 137.6 hectares of land from Future Urban to Medium Density Residential and 1.2 hectares from Future Urban to Business 6. PC7 became operative on 15 July 2022.
- The granting of the resource consents required for the development by an Expert Consenting Panel under the COVID-19 Recovery (Fast-Track Consenting) Act 2020.
The granting of these rezoning and resource consents represents a significant step towards realising MADE’s vision for a new community at Rotokauri North. The development will provide a range of housing options, including affordable housing, as well as high-quality open space and a neighbourhood centre for the amenity of local residents.
Led by partner Simon Berry, the Berry Simons team worked with a multidisciplinary group of top experts to demonstrate that the rezoning and intended development could appropriately manage all potential environmental effects. In particular, MADE’s team has carefully engineered and designed the proposal’s three waters solutions to provide positive ecological outcomes, including regeneration of green spaces along the ‘green spine’ that is a key feature of the development.
This success follows three private plan changes to authorise almost 200 hectares of residential development and a town centre, also by MADE, at Auranga in Drury West. MADE Group’s Chief Executive Officer, Charles Ma, is pleased with the result.
“Following the success of the Auranga development, MADE is pleased to be able to progress its second residential community at Rotokauri as another exemplar of sustainable greenfield development, which will bring a range of quality housing options to the market in Hamilton,” says Ma. “We are pleased that PC7 has been approved, and that MADE can start creating another strong, integrated and fulfilled community in a development that respects and enhances the environment.”
Simon Berry says, “We are delighted to have assisted MADE Group to attain this further major milestone, which will see them expand their community building from Auckland into Hamilton.”
